Need a bluetooth-compatible smartphone; then you need an app, I’m a big fan of Torque, but the Rev app is probably fine too. Not sure how they compare. Torque cost me a few bucks.

I had a Elm327 BT adapter first and used it with my Windows Netbook. It worked fine, but I thought all of the software I tried was clunky. I don’t have an Android device but I do have an iPhone so the Kiwi came on board. There’s only two or three apps that work with the Kiwi/iPhone combo. Rev2 is probably the most popular. It does all the same stuff any of the Elm327 stuff will do. The one thing it does that none of the PC/Elm327 stuff does though is overlay your position on a track map using GPS. This can really help you visualize what you’re doing right and wrong. It’s not as good as a dedicated track position unit, but it does work pretty well. One thing that Rev2 is NOT so good at is the number of times it samples per second. Generally this isn’t a bad thing. But in talking to the people at DPTune they say that the resolution of the Rev2 data logging isn’t fine enough for them to feel safe about throwing an aggressive tune (worth about 14hp over stock compared to about 9hp for a standard tune) into the stock ECU. So I may have to either buy a better piece of software for the Kiwi/iPhone combo or reinvestigate the PC/Elm327 software question.
