The BIM-01-2 OBD-II Interface is your gateway to accessing a wealth of performance data directly from your vehicle’s engine computer (ECM). By simply plugging into the standard diagnostic port, this innovative interface extracts crucial engine and transmission metrics, making it an indispensable tool for monitoring and understanding your vehicle’s operation. Designed for seamless integration with Dakota Digital Instrument Systems*, the BIM-01-2 delivers real-time data to enhance your driving experience and vehicle insights.
This interface is widely compatible across a broad spectrum of vehicles (see compatibility details below):***
-
Essential Gauges: Speedometer, Tachometer, Engine Temperature, and Check Engine Indicator are commonly available.
-
Vehicle-Specific Data: Delve deeper with potential access to Intake Air Temperature, Transmission Temperature, Ambient Air Temperature, Gear Position, Oil Pressure, and Boost Pressure, depending on your vehicle’s ECM capabilities.****
It’s important to note that the availability of vehicle-specific data such as Intake Temp, Transmission Temp, Ambient Air Temp, Oil Pressure, and Gear Position can vary depending on your vehicle’s factory ECM configuration or any aftermarket modifications. Dakota Digital emphasizes that while this data may be accessible, its presence and accuracy are contingent on the ECM and the presence of functional OEM sensors. Therefore, Dakota Digital cannot guarantee the display of Coolant Temperature, Intake Temperature, Transmission Temperature, Ambient Air Temperature, Oil Pressure, Boost, or Gear Position, as these are functions dictated by the vehicle’s ECM and sensor setup.
*The BIM-01-2 is specifically engineered to decode data transmitted by the ECM via OBD-II protocols. It is designed to seamlessly supply this decoded information to GRFX, RTX, HDX, VHX, and VFD3 series instrument systems that utilize a black plastic control module. For users with BIM-compatible control boxes featuring a 3.5mm headphone jack BIM input, a 394194 adapter harness is required for connection. Please be aware that earlier instrument systems equipped with an aluminum control module are not compatible with BIM connectivity.
**The BIM-01-2 is exclusively compatible with J1850 and CAN OBD-II protocols. It supports OBD-II protocols SAE J1850 VPW, SAE J1850 PWM, and ISO 15765 CAN 500k 11-bit identifiers, adhering to the SAE J1979 PID protocol. Ensuring protocol compatibility is crucial for proper function.
For any concerns regarding compatibility with your specific vehicle, Dakota Digital encourages you to reach out to their sales or technical support departments for expert guidance before purchase or installation. They can provide definitive answers based on your vehicle’s make, model, and year.
****A specific limitation to be aware of is that GM Connect & Cruise packages do not transmit gear position data. Consequently, if you are using a GM Connect & Cruise package, the BIM-01-2 will not be able to acquire gear position information, even if your vehicle might otherwise be capable of providing it. This is a known incompatibility due to the data output configuration of these specific GM packages.
