Bridging the Gap: Seamlessly Convert Analog Gauges to OBD2 with the BIM-01-2 Interface

For automotive enthusiasts and professionals alike, integrating modern vehicle data with classic analog gauge systems presents a unique challenge. The BIM-01-2 OBD-II Interface is engineered to solve this, acting as a sophisticated bridge that converts your vehicle’s digital OBD2 data into signals compatible with analog display systems. This innovative module allows you to tap directly into your engine’s diagnostic port, effortlessly extracting crucial engine and transmission data from the vehicle’s computer (ECM).

The BIM-01-2 is designed to gather and output a comprehensive range of information to Dakota Digital Instrument Systems*, ensuring you have access to vital vehicle metrics right at your fingertips.

Key Data Points Available:

  • Universally Available on Most Vehicles***:

    • Speedometer readings for accurate speed display.
    • Tachometer data to monitor engine RPM.
    • Engine Temperature monitoring to prevent overheating.
    • Check Engine Indicator status for immediate alerts.
  • Vehicle-Specific Data****:

    • Intake Air Temperature readings for optimal engine performance analysis.
    • Transmission Temperature monitoring to ensure transmission health.
    • Ambient Air Temperature display for environmental awareness.
    • Gear Position indicator for precise gear information.
    • Oil Pressure readings to maintain critical lubrication awareness.
    • Boost Pressure data for turbocharged engine monitoring.

It’s important to note that due to the variations in factory and aftermarket ECMs, the availability of vehicle-specific data such as Intake Temp, Transmission Temp, Ambient Air Temp, Oil Pressure, and Gear Position can differ from vehicle to vehicle. Dakota Digital provides the BIM-01-2 as a tool to access this data but cannot guarantee the presence or accuracy of these specific readings as they are dependent on the ECM and the presence of functional OEM sensors in your vehicle.

*The BIM-01-2 is specifically engineered to decode information transmitted by the ECM through OBD-II protocols. It is designed to seamlessly supply this decoded data to GRFX, RTX, HDX, VHX, and VFD3 systems that utilize a black plastic control module. For compatibility with BIM-compatible control boxes featuring a 3.5mm headphone jack BIM input, a 394194 adaptor harness (sold separately) is required. Please be aware that earlier instrument systems equipped with an aluminum control module are not compatible with BIM connectivity.

**The BIM-01-2 is compatible with J1850 and CAN OBD-II protocols exclusively. It supports OBD-II protocols SAE J1850 VPW, SAE J1850 PWM, and ISO 15765 CAN 500k 11 bit identifiers that adhere to the SAE J1979 PID protocol.

If you have any concerns regarding the compatibility of the BIM-01-2 with your specific vehicle, we strongly encourage you to reach out to our dedicated sales or technical support department for expert guidance.

****Please be aware that GM Connect & Cruise packages typically do not transmit gear position data, which will prevent the BIM-01-2 from acquiring and displaying this particular information.

In conclusion, the BIM-01-2 OBD-II Interface offers a robust and reliable solution for those looking to bridge the gap between analog gauge systems and modern OBD2 vehicle data. It provides a straightforward way to access and display essential vehicle information, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetics of your dashboard.
