2013 Ford Edge OBD2: Diagnosing Brake Booster and Idle Issues

Experiencing a low brake pedal in your 2013 Ford Edge, leading to abrupt, harsh braking? Is your engine idling roughly, almost to the point of stalling? These symptoms, especially if accompanied by a hissing sound when you apply the brakes, could point to a torn brake booster diaphragm. This is a known issue for certain Ford Edge models within this generation.

To determine if your vehicle might be covered under a specific program, input your 2013 Ford Edge’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at the official Ford ETIS website: https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do and hit “Search”. Look for “Customer Satisfaction Program 13N102 Brake Booster Warranty Extension” in the “Outstanding Field Service Actions” section.

This program provides extended warranty coverage for brake booster failures in specific 2010 to 2013 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles built within a particular date range. The coverage extends for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the original warranty start date, whichever comes first, and covers a one-time brake booster replacement.

If your 2013 Ford Edge is eligible under this program, it’s highly recommended to contact your local Ford dealership. Schedule an appointment to have your brake booster inspected. They can confirm if the issue is covered and perform the necessary repairs.

Driving with a failing brake booster can be risky. If your 2013 Ford Edge exhibits these symptoms, exercise caution. In severe cases, like with our 2012 Lincoln MKX experience, the vehicle might become borderline unsafe to drive. Fortunately, in our case, the dealership was nearby.

The brake booster replacement under this program was performed free of charge, even with nearly 90,000 miles on the odometer. Checking your VIN and taking advantage of this program, if applicable, could save you significant repair costs and ensure your 2013 Ford Edge’s braking system is functioning safely.
