2007 E350 OBD2 Port Not Working? Try This Simple Fuse Fix!

Experiencing trouble with your 2007 Mercedes-Benz E350’s OBD2 port? If you’re trying to read diagnostic codes and your scanner is not powering up, you might be facing a frustrating situation. Before you assume a major electrical problem, there’s a simple fix you should check first: a blown fuse. Many 2007 E350 owners have encountered a situation where the OBD2 port suddenly stops working, preventing them from performing essential diagnostics or passing smog checks. The solution, surprisingly, can be as straightforward as replacing a single fuse.

The fuse in question is often not labeled as “OBD2 Port” or “ECU Port,” which can lead to confusion when consulting your fuse box diagram. Instead, you’ll need to look for the fuse labeled “Diagnostic Port.” For the 2007 E350 model, this fuse is located in the engine bay fuse box, specifically at position number 62, and it’s a 15 AMP fuse.

Locating your fuse diagram is the first step. While the main fuse box is in the engine bay, the diagram itself isn’t always immediately visible there. Mercedes-Benz cleverly stores a folded fuse assignment diagram in the fuse panel located at the driver’s side end of the dashboard. To access it, simply remove the end cap of the dashboard panel with your fingers. The folded diagram will be tucked inside.

Once you have the diagram, carefully review the list of fuses. Don’t get hung up on searching for “OBD” or “ECU.” Systematically go through the list until you find “Diagnostic Port.” Cross-reference this with the port assignment and fuse capacity indicated on the diagram to confirm you’ve found the correct fuse.

Now, inspect fuse number 62 in your engine bay fuse box. In some cases, owners have discovered that the fuse bay is completely empty, a puzzling situation, especially for cars bought from reputable dealers and consistently serviced at authorized centers. If the fuse is present, check if it’s blown. A blown fuse will usually have a broken filament inside.

If the fuse is blown or missing, replace it with a new 15 AMP fuse. This simple action can often restore power to your OBD2 port immediately. After replacing the fuse, test your OBD2 scanner to see if it now powers on and can communicate with your vehicle’s computer.

While the reason for a missing or blown “Diagnostic Port” fuse might remain a mystery, potential causes could include electrical work done on the car, such as alternator replacements at independent shops. It’s possible that during such services, the fuse was inadvertently removed and not replaced.

By checking and replacing the “Diagnostic Port” fuse, you can often resolve a non-working OBD2 port issue on your 2007 E350 quickly and get back to diagnosing your car or passing your smog check. This simple DIY fix can save you time and potentially expensive trips to the mechanic for a problem that has a straightforward solution.
