I’m having trouble getting an OBD2 scanner to link with my 2006 Honda Civic. I’ve tried a couple of different procedures, but no luck.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
-
Scanner off & car off: Connect the scanner to the OBD port. Turn the car’s ignition to the “on” position (without starting the engine). Then, power on the scanner and attempt to link. This didn’t work.
-
Car running: Followed the same procedure as above, but with the car running before attempting to link the scanner. Still no connection.
I even tested the scanner on my ’05 2500 Dodge Ram, and it failed to link there as well, with the truck displaying a “no bus” message. I returned that scanner and tried another of the same model, encountering the same problem.
At this point, I’m questioning if the scanner itself is faulty or if it’s incompatible with newer vehicles like my 2006 Honda Civic, despite being advertised as OBD II and CAN compliant.
Does anyone have recommendations for an OBD2 scanner that is confirmed to work with a 2006 Honda Civic? Ideally, I need one that displays text descriptions of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Features like monitor status checks and real-time data display would also be very beneficial. While budget-friendly options are appreciated, reliability and functionality, especially code descriptions, are essential. Bonus points if it supports manufacturer-specific codes for Honda, GM, and Dodge, and is updateable.
Thanks for any advice!
